Monsoon Flora Exceptional Lady Slippers
Compot Information
Paphiopedilum Armeni-White
What is a compot?
Monsoon Flora Orchid Compots are a little more than that, but the basics are the same. All of the compots we offer come from the same source: the flasks in our propagation laboratory. With slipper orchids, we remove the plants and the nutrient agar they are growing in from the flask (the black 'puck' in the picture below) and place it whole into a 4 inch pot that has been partially filled with potting mix. We then carefully sprinkle potting mix around and in between the seedlings so that it reaches the surface of the agar. The new compot then goes into our greenhouse (or to you) and grows for about one year. During that time, the agar slowly decomposes organically and the roots of the seedlings grow out into the potting mix.
Above is one group of shelves with thousands of baby orchids in flasks. On the right is a close up example of one of our ehrlenmeyer flasks.
